Kimberlina Solar Power Plant & Research Facility
California’s First Solar Thermal Plant in Nearly 20 Years

Kimberlina Site PhotoLocated in Bakersfield, CA, Ausra's Kimberlina Solar Thermal Power Plant is the first of its kind in North America. We're ready to power our customers and provide industrial steam for businesses, working to cut energy costs with emissions-free technology. Kimberlina provides peak power demand during California's summer months. It also serves as a testing and demonstration facility for technology advancements and for customer demonstration.

The rows of mirrors at Kimberlina were manufactured at Ausra's solar thermal power factory in Las Vegas, Nevada. At full build out, these solar thermal collector lines will generate up to 25 MWt (5 MWe).

Liddell Solar Thermal Station:
The World's First Solar/Coal-Fired Power Augmentation Facility

Kimberlina Site PhotoLocated in New South Wales Australia, Ausra has developed and operates the world’s first solar thermal power collector system for coal-fired power augmentation. Ausra's Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector solar steam generator technology began testing operations at Macquarie Generation's 2,000-MW Liddell Solar Thermal Station in 2004, initially generating 1 MWe of solar-generated steam.

In 2008, Ausra completed construction of its Phase II, 9-MWt (3MWe) solar thermal steam system expansion. Ausra's land-efficient, high durability solar steam generators supply solar-generated steam to the Liddell Power Station, displacing a portion of coal consumption for the plant’s electric power.

First Solar Steam Boiler Manufacturer to Receive the ASME "S" Stamp Certificate of Authorization

ASMEAusra was awarded the "S" Stamp Certificate of Authorization from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for the manufacture of the company's industrial solar steam power boilers. Ausra is the first and only solar steam power boiler manufacturer to receive this Certificate of Authorization under ASME's Boiler and Pressure Vessel (BPV) Code.

An ASME "S" Stamp indicates that a product conforms to the latest edition of the ASME BPV Code and is considered the industry hallmark of acceptance and certification. It is recognized in more than 100 countries as a means of meeting government safety regulations, and complies with all safety laws and regulations in the United States and Canada.
